With a net worth of around $500m, Edmund Bateman is Australia's richest doctor. Yet he only founded the country’s second largest network of medical centres when he was well into his 40’s. After three decades, Primary Health Care has grown from a single clinic on Sydney’s North Shore to a $2.3bn company.
Its once revolutionary 24-hour bulk-billing business model relies on keeping its medical centres full of patients needing all kinds of treatments, such as dentistry, physiotherapy and radiology. The company also boasts 900 general practitioners.
