Coca-Cola Amatil: Result 2013

The bottler of the famous soft drink is struggling to maintain volumes in the face of stiff price competition from Pepsi.

Any which way it goes, the beverages price war in Australian supermarkets continues to take its toll on Coca-Cola Amatil. In 2013 the supermarket price premium of Coca-Cola over Pepsi stretched from 43% to 49%, resulting in an 8% decline in grocery volumes (offset by a 2% increase in non-grocery), a 3% decline in Australian beverages revenues to $2.9bn and a 9% fall in earnings before interest and tax to $566m.

The good news in Australian beverages was a continued increase in premium products – with a 33% rise in frozen beverages and a 70% increase in mini-can volumes.
