Last week's worst kept secret was that Peter 'Pacman' Smedley was up to his old tricks. Mayne Nickless has decided to build on its market-leading position in healthcare with a friendly takeover of Australian Hospital Care giving Mayne 29% of the national private bed market. The $1.15 cash offered looks out of the money, as the share alternative of one Mayne Nickless for 4.2 AHX looks the better option. We said AHX was a SPECULATIVE BUY in issue 65 ($0.69), but HOLD now ahead of the documentation.
