Wayne Swan’s decision not to allow competition for clearing and settlement in the cash equities market puts the ball back in ASX’s court. Officially, the decision, which fully accepts the recommendations of the Council of Financial Regulators has been deferred for two years. But who knows who will be in power then and what their priorities might be.
