Transfield elects new chairman

Diane Gander Smith set to succeed Tony Shepherd as group's chairman.

Transfield Services (TSE) has elected independent non-executive director Diane Smith Gander to succeed Tony Shepherd as chairman of the board.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, Transfield said Ms Smith Gander already had a strong knowledge of the business and was well-placed to drive the company forward.

“She is an ideal person to continue to oversee the board’s turnaround of Transfield Services, Mr Shepherd said.

"I am pleased to be leaving the board and the company in capable hands.” 

Ms Smith Gander is a currently also a non-executive director on the board of Wesfarmers Ltd, CBH Group and a Commissioner of Tourism WA.

Her most immediate prior executive experience was in the finance sector where she held roles as group executive for information technology and general manager positions for retail and network support functions at Westpac, the group said.

Ms Smith Gander will stand for re-election as a director at the company’s annual general meeting on October 25. 

Subject to re-election, Ms Smith Gander's appointment as chairman takes effect from October 26.
