Newcrest Mining's (NCM) internal investigation into the continuous disclosure scandal first unearthed in June look set to run beyond its original timeline, The Australian reports.

The miner's probe, announced on June 25 by chairman Don Mercer, was set to take "a couple of months."

The Australian reports Newcrest said late last week that "specific timing is not possible at this point" and would not confirm whether the report had been completed.

The scandal is also the subject of an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) and two potential class actions.
