New portal holds third of off-the-plan market
Off-the-plan apartment sales portal Investorist has signed on nearly a third of all off-the-plan developments up for sale across the country since it was launched last month.
Unlike Domain.com.au or RealEstate.com.au, Investorist uses a business-to-business model that connects developers to financial planners, accountants and real estate agents who then sell to consumers.
Founder Jon Ellis, formerly a marketing manager with Mirvac, said the site was created because about 70 per cent of new unit purchasers were investors and they tend to seek professional advice before buying.
"The off-the-plan market is a difficult space to understand. Most consumers require assistance to navigate the field and its financial planners, accountants and other professional advisers they go to for advice."
The 900 registered members of Investorist can customise the platform to compare off-the-plan projects and individual units by price point, size and amenity. This information can then be sent directly to clients.
There are more than 90 projects on the site from sellers such as Australand, Crown International, Knight Frank and CBRE.
Mr Ellis said Investorist could also be used by developers to pinpoint problems with their pricing model.
