NBN ready for TPG challenge

Morrow to announce new strategy in attempt to push TPG to one side: report

NBN Co will today officially reveal an aggressive construction plan that shows it is taking the threat of TPG Telecom’s fibre-to-the-basement (FTTB) strategy seriously, according to The Australian Financial Review.

NBN Co will offer the same FTTB technology used by TPG in a rollout that could extend to 50,000 apartments, with the government firm’s chief executive Bill Morrow issuing a warning to potential TPG customers.

“A building that signs up to TPG runs the risk of being left with only one retail service provider -- TPG itself,” he told the AFR as NBN Co prepared to launch what he describes as “a commercial response to emerging competition”.

“A clear majority of the industry is opposed TPG’s plans or wants the firm to be subject to competition constraints.”
