Is Cloud a victim of its own hype?

Businesses have to realise that cloud computing is not a silver bullet for all IT problems, and need to stop basing their expectations for the system on the buzz that it’s generating.

IBM's worldwide director of cloud client computing engagements, Bowman Hall, isn’t a big fan of the term ‘cloud.’ Now that might not be the thing to expect from someone who is briefing clients across the globe about the potential of the trend, but Hall says that it’s transformation into a convenient catchphrase is doing more harm than good.

‘I don’t like the term cloud, it’s a single word than can mean a lot of things,’ Hall said in a panel discussion at the IBM Pulse event in Sydney last month.
