Helou and Wylie make a formidable pair

The Murray Goulburn chief and the Melbourne banker are seeking to trump a local and a foreign rival for Warrnambool.

Six months ago investment bankers on Melbourne’s Collins Street began to mutter darkly among themselves over the decision by Murray Goulburn Co-operative Ltd to hire one of their most formidable competitors, John Wylie.

Bankers at 101 or 120 Collins Street who do food and beverage deals speculated the engagement of the head of Lazard Ltd’s Australian business by Murray Goulburn’s managing director, Gary Helou, signaled a deal was in the works.
