Downer EDI wins $70 million contract

Engineering group inks deal to work on WA ammonium nitrate plant project.

Engineering firm Downer EDI (DOW) has won a $70 million contract to perform structural, mechanical, piping and electrical work at the Technical Ammonium Nitrate Plant project on the Burrup Peninsula in Western Australia.

Shares in Downer EDI lifted by 2.22% to $5.07 at 1028 AEDT, against a benchmark index rise of 0.9%.

Downer said it would start the work immediately after being awarded the contract by Spanish contractor Tecnicas Reunidas SA.

The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015.
