Crown (CWN) has extended the position of its executive deputy chairman John Alexander for an "indefinite" period but scrapped an annual consumer price index increase in his salary.

In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange, the entertainment group said Mr Alexander would also now be required to wait out a year-long restraint of employment if he stepped down from the position.

The extended terms replace Mr Alexander's previous end date of November last year.

All other terms and conditions from Mr Alexander's employment arrangement are to continue, the group said.

Mr Alexander is a current board member of Seven West Media Ltd and has previously held senior executive positions at other Packer-owned companies including ACP magazines, Publishing and Broadcasting Ltd and Consolidated Media Holdings Ltd.

He is also a former editor-in-chief of Fairfax Media's The Sydney Morning Herald and The Australian Financial Review.
