Australia's top 20 wind developers
Every year the Bureau of Resource and Energy Economics releases a listing of all power projects under development in Australia.
The most recent release shows that of the top 20 wind farm developers in the country, Energy Australia is down the very bottom, with Origin Energy ranking 17th. If Origin Energy had managed to sell off Stockyard Hill as they’d planned, then they wouldn’t have even made the top 20.

The big developers in wind farms are actually names most of the general public wouldn’t be familiar with. The top two developers, Wind Prospect and Epuron, have been hard at work over more than a decade finding sites with good wind speeds, ideally near grid infrastructure and engaging with local communities to get their support. What’s interesting is both Epuron and Wind Prospect were the developers behind other projects that have subsequently been progressed by more well-known companies, such as AGL and Origin Energy.
If we turn to gas power project development we see a reversal in the position of Energy Australia from bottom of the list to the very top. AGL interestingly is big in both gas and wind power. While Origin makes it to number six in gas power.
