A reality check for the PC market

With the PC market showing no signs of improvement it looks like the traditional heavyweights in the sector, HP and Dell, are set to lose their dominant positions.

The worldwide sales of personal computers is showing no signs of improvement and with ultrabooks failing to deliver on their promise it looks like consumers are steadily falling out of love with PCs. As the market starts contract Horace Dediu reckons that the traditional leaders in the space, HP and Dell, may end up losing their crowns.

Gartner has published preliminary PC unit sales for Q2. The data from Apple’s Mac sales has not been published yet but based on some estimates, we can draw a partial picture of the personal computer market.
