Company Overview

Business Description:
Village Roadshow Limited (VRL) is an international entertainment and media company with core businesses in Theme Parks, Film Distribution, Cinema Exhibition, and Film Production and Music.

Strategy Analysis:
2010 was a good year in terms of Australian Cinema and attendance at the Gold Coast Theme Parks. The sale of the Greek and Czech Republic businesses were finalised and notably, VRL announced that it would build a Wet 'N´ Wild in Sydney, Australia. The company will be hoping that 2011 can build upon 2010´s fine performance in cinema - Avatar, Alice in Wonderland and Ice Age 3 combined with upgraded digital screens ensured that audiences flocked back to the big screen Village Roadshow reported NPAT up 96% to $185.52 for the year ended 30 June 2011. Revenues from ordinary activities were $925.85m, down 4% from last year. EBITDA from operations of $140.5m was down on the prior result of $147.0m mainly due to the Qld floods and months of record rain on the Gold Coast as well as, to a lesser extent, absence of an Avatar in the cinema division. Basic and Diluted EPS was 135.85 cents compared to 72.88 cents last year. Net operating cash flow was $149.81m compared to $205.99m last year. The final dividend declared was 8.0 cents, taking the full year dividend to 28.0 cents compared with 22.5 cents last year.
