Business Description: Paladin Energy Limited (PDN) is a uranium exploration and mining company with projects currently in Australia, Canada, and two operating mines in Africa. PDN's focus is on its African projects, Langer Heinrich in Namibia and Kayelekera in Malawi.
Strategy Analysis: PDN aims to establish a global footprint underpinned by significant uranium production to meet the growing demand for nuclear fuel. It seeks progressive development of its uranium resources, complemented by strategic merger and acquisition activity, supported by opportunities arising from its marketing entity, Paladin Nuclear.
Paladin Energy reported a net loss of US$82.3m for the year ended 30 June 2011. Revenues from ordinary activities were US$268.9m, up 32% from last year due to increased uranium sales volumes and the higher realised uranium sales price. Basic and Diluted EPS was (11.1) US cents compared to (6.5) US cents last year. The net operating cash outflow was US$102.0m compared to an outflow of US$34.5m in the pcp. No dividend was declared.
