Business Description: Capral Limited (CAA) is engaged in the manufacturing, marketing and distribution of semi-fabricated aluminium products used in residential, commercial and industrial applications. CAA distributes its products via five distribution facilities, six regional centres and 12 metropolitan trade centres throughout Australia. CAA offers its products and services under the brands: Genesis; Platinum; Amplimesh; Juralco; AGS; Artisan; and Aqua Style.
Strategy Analysis: Operating issues at the Bremar plant have mostly been resolved. Improved performance was the result of improved die management, capacity constraint issues being resolved, a reduction in production downtime and maintenance stoppages, and resolution of a number of problems in plant operating and production scheduling systems. CAA recently announced it will spend $8m to improve materials handling and packing.
In August 2005, CAA acquired the Smart Aluminium, Crane Aluminium Systems and Crane Aluminium Extrusions businesses from Crane Group Limited. This will allow CAA to be more competitive with imported products, create substantial synergies (more than $10m p.a by 2008) and create manufacturing economies of scale.
